The Metter Main Street program is part of a national network of more than 1,200 active Main Street entities. It is an essential, community-driven initiative that focuses on the revitalization of older, traditional business districts throughout the U.S. The Metter Main Street program is a collaborative effort of downtown businesses, property owners, and other downtown stakeholders to revitalize, market and promote downtown Metter, and attract more people to Metter’s downtown to shop and dine.
The Metter Main Street Program works to highlight downtown business specials, to promote special events downtown to attract visitors, and to work with downtown business owners, building owners and supporters to revitalize and beautify Metter’s downtown commercial district.
Main Street programs advocate a return to community self-reliance, local empowerment and the rebuilding of traditional commercial districts based on their unique assets—distinctive architecture, a pedestrian-friendly environment, personal service, local ownership and a sense of community. Downtown Metter is important for its role as the historic commercial center of Candler County, and a number of downtown buildings are on the National Register of Historic Places.
